FDA Recalled Multiple Cheese Brands Over Listeria and Salmonella Concerns

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced recalls of several cheese products sold across multiple states. The recalls involve Wegmans, Fromi USA, Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op, and Quesito El Establo, due to concerns about possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes or Salmonella.
Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op Recall
Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op, based in Ohio, has recalled a variety of cheeses made between May 30 and August 13, 2025. The products were distributed in Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Texas through retailers, distributors, and dining halls.
Affected Products Include:
Organic Gouda (8 oz, sell by 2/13/2026)
Mozzarella/Provolone shredded cheese (5 lb, sell by 9/3/2025)
Yellow Cheddar (5 lb loaves and shredded, sell by 2/13/2026 and 9/3/2025)
Swiss Cheese (5 lb loaves, sell by 2/13/2026)
Pepper Jack (loaves and shredded, sell by 2/13/2026 and 9/3/2025)
Monterey Jack (loaves and shredded, sell by 2/13/2026 and 9/3/2025)

Wegmans Recall
Wegmans Food Markets has pulled several cheese items from shelves due to possible Listeria contamination. These were sold between July 1 and August 12, 2025 in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

Medium Camembert Soft Ripened Cheese (8.8 oz)
Assorted Cheese Flight (1 lb)
Grilling Camembert with Tapenade & Roasted Tomatoes (10 oz)
Caramel Apple Pecan Topped Brie Cheese (13 oz)

Fromi USA Recall
Fromi USA has voluntarily recalled Brie Royal Faucon (1 kg), lot number 615. The cheese was sold in Brooklyn, New York at Cheese Plate Park Slope and Carroll Gardens locations between July 24 and August 13, 2025. Customers can contact Fromi USA at +1-212-583-4920 (Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM EST).
Quesito El Establo Recall (Salmonella Risk)
In a separate recall, Quesito El Establo, a New Hampshire based dairy producer, has recalled its Spanish Cheese (Quesito Colombiano) due to possible Salmonella contamination.
About 800 pounds of cheese were recalled.
Products had expiration dates of August 22, 2025, or earlier.
Sold in Massachusetts at Hispanic/Latino retail stores.
Packaging: 1-pound plastic-wrapped cheese in Ziploc bags with a blue cow sticker labeled “Quesito Colombiano”.

Why These Recalls Matter
Both Listeria and Salmonella are harmful bacteria that can cause serious foodborne illness.
Listeria symptoms: fever, headache, muscle aches, nausea, diarrhea. It can be life-threatening for pregnant women, newborns, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems.
Salmonella symptoms: diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, and in severe cases, hospitalization.
What Should You Do?
Do not eat the recalled products.
Throw them away or return them to the store for a full refund.
