World Food Day - 2024

World Food Day is celebrated annually on October 16 to commemorate the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in 1945. The primary purpose of the day is to raise awareness about global food issues, including hunger, malnutrition, and food security. It encourages collective action to address these challenges, promote sustainable agriculture, and ensure that everyone has access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food.

World Food Day 2024,carries the theme "Right to foods for a better life and a better future." This year's theme emphasizes the need for accessible, diverse, and nutritious food for all, underscoring food as a fundamental human right. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) draws attention to the fact that while global food production is sufficient to meet humanity's needs, hunger still affects around 10% of the population due to issues like economic inequality, climate change, conflicts, and inadequate food distribution.

The celebration serves as a platform for global dialogue on how to improve food systems, reduce food waste, and tackle inequalities in food distribution. It aligns with international efforts to eradicate hunger, such as the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of "Zero Hunger" by 2030. The day also highlights the importance of agricultural innovations and the impact of climate change on food security.
