The Telangana government plans to ban egg mayonnaise, removing it from store and restaurant shelves in response to many cases of food poisoning connected to the consumption of the well-known creamy dip.
Egg-based mayonnaise has apparently been implicated in at least ten contamination instances in the state this year, according to food safety officials.
Recent Food Poisoning cases due to Mayonnaise
Four Secunderabad residents were admitted to the hospital in the most recent instance after eating shawarma that contained the dip and developing severe diarrhea and vomiting.
For the same reason, 17 residents of Alwal experienced fever, diarrhea, and vomiting in January.
Kerala was the first Indian state to ban the manufacture and distribution of mayo prepared from raw eggs in 2023.
This came after lab tests revealed that market-sourced mayonnaise samples contained harmful microbes.
Egg mayo will become the first edible product to be banned in Telangana if the state follows suit.
