National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) recommends CBSE to safeguard school children's health by curbing excessive sugar intake.

CBSE has mandated all schools to establish 'Sugar Boards' to monitor students sugar intake.

This initiative is taken due to the rising health issues cause by excessive sugar consumption.

High sugar intake is causing increased risk of type 2 diabetes among children.

Obesity, dental problems, and metabolic disorders are also observed.

According to the board, children aged between 4-10 years get 13% of their daily calories from sugar.

While, children aged between 11-18 years get about 18% calories from sugar per day.

The recommended intake is not more than 5%.

The notification by CBSE mentioned that high sugar is affecting the academic performance of children.

The sugar board will include clear information about the recommended daily sugar intake for children.

Sugar content in food & beverages, health risks of sugar consumption & healthier sugar alternatives will also be displayed.

Schools are directed to conduct seminars & workshops to create awareness.

Schools have been directed to submit a short report along with photographs of the activities July 15, 2025.
