India's dairy sector remains protected from duty concessions in Free Trade Agreement due to concerns over small farmers.

India will not provide import tariff concession on cheese, dairy and apples.

India and UK signed the Free Trade Agreement on May 6, 2025.

An official stated that about 10% of tariff lines are included in sensitive items list.

Under EFTA, India has also not given concession in dairy sector to Norway and Switzerland.

Indian exports will get duty-free access on 99% of tariff lines covering almost all trade value.

The UK said Indian tariffs will be cut on 90% of tariff lines, with 85% becoming fully tariff-free within 10 years.

India-US talks are focusing on agriculture and dairy, aiming to improve market access by cutting tariffs and removing trade barriers.

India and the US plan to finalize the first part of a multi sector Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) by fall 2025.
