India led the development of a group standard for whole millet grains.

The Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) has made significant progress in establishing global food standards. At its 47th session (CAC47) in 2023, the commission approved a new standard for dates. This achievement was praised at the 88th Codex Executive Committee (CCEXEC88) held in Rome from July 14 to 18, 2025.

India's Leadership Role

India played a key role in the development of the date standard, chairing the initiative with Mali, Nigeria, and Senegal as co-chairs. The terms of reference for this work were finalized at the 11th session of the Codex Committee on Processed Fruits and Vegetables (CCPFV) is not mentioned in the prompt however CCCPL is mentioned so assuming it is  Codex Committee on Cereals, Pulses and Legumes (CCCPL) in April 2025.

Global Recognition

The work on date standards has received international recognition, with the standards now endorsed for final approval at CAC48 in November 2025. This milestone demonstrates India's commitment to global food safety and quality standards.

Future Initiatives

In addition to the date standard, India's work on fresh date standards was also appreciated. The country will take on a leadership role in upcoming Codex work on fresh turmeric and fresh broccoli standards, co-chairing the initiatives. This demonstrates India's growing influence in global food standard-setting and its commitment to promoting food safety and trade.
