FSSAI mandates annual return filing for food businesses with a turnover of 12 lakh or more.

Holding an FSSAI license is not enough timely return submission is compulsory for compliance.

Form D1 must be filed by FBOs engaged in making, processing, repacking, or relabelling food items, except milk, meat, and alcohol.

It must be filed separately for each FSSAI license held by the business.

The form requires details like product name, package size, quantity (in metric tonnes), and value.

Import and export details must also be included if applicable.

The deadline for submitting Form D1 is 31st May every year.

Returns can be filed online through the FoSCOS portal  or submitted manually to the licensing authority.

Late filing attracts a penalty of ₹100 per day of delay.

FBOs with an annual turnover below 12 lakh are exempt from filing Form D1.

The information submitted must match the details on the FSSAI license.

Filing Form D1 is mandatory before renewing the FSSAI license.
