FSSAI and Drug Control Conduct Successful Food Safety Check in Leh’s Shey Area

In a proactive move to safeguard public health, the Drug and Food Control Organisation, Leh, successfully conducted an adulteration testing drive today in the Shey area of District Leh. The initiative focused on detecting the presence of artificial coloring agents—specifically Rhodamine B, Erythrosine, and Malachite Green—in a range of consumables including fresh fruits, vegetables like okra and green peas, watermelons, and condiments used in local eateries.

A total of 16 samples were collected and analyzed on-site. In a reassuring outcome, all samples were found free from harmful adulterants, confirming their safety for human consumption.

In addition to the testing drive, a comprehensive awareness session on food safety and hygiene was organized for food business operators and street vendors. The session emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness and following food safety regulations. To further encourage compliance, FSSAI display boards were distributed to participants, highlighting key safety standards and consumer information.

This initiative reflects the administration’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that the food reaching the public is safe, wholesome, and free from health hazards
