Six women, including Katy Perry and Gayle King, safely completed a trip to the edge of outer space on a rocket belonging to Jeff Bezos. The women flew to the Kármán line, the internationally recognized boundary of space, and experienced weightlessness for three minutes.
The rocket blasted off from a private Texas ranch and reached a maximum ascent velocity of 2,300mph. The passengers exclaimed in excitement as they reached the highest point of their journey, about 62 miles above the Earth.
After floating in space, the capsule detached from its booster and made a soft landing on the Texas plains. The passengers were welcomed back to Earth with hugs and kisses from Bezos.
In a post-flight interview, Lauren Sánchez, Bezos's fiancée, said the experience made her want to hug everybody. Katy Perry described the flight as "the highest high" and said it was about surrendering to the unknown and trusting oneself.
Perry also said the experience had awakened her divine feminine side, and she felt a sense of connection to the universe. The flight was the 11th human flight for the New Shepard program, which has flown 52 people to the Kármán line.
The all-female trip has sparked debate, with some critics questioning whether it is a moment of feminist progress or a marketing stunt for Bezos's space tourism business.
